To advance wildfire mitigation and risk reduction efforts, the Creston Community Forest has been allocated $1 million in grant funding from the Forest Enhancement Society of BC (FESBC).
This support, part of $19 million allocated across the province by FESBC in April 2025, will support local work from 2025 to 2027 and further protect the Creston Valley.
“We’re deeply grateful for FESBC’s continued support and the shared commitment to building a safer, more sustainable future for our forests and our community," said Angela French, planning and development supervisor, Creston Community Forest.
The FESCBC grant directly supports the implementation of fuel management treatments in high-priority areas, including manual and mechanical treatments. It also helps advance planning for future initiatives like prescribed burning — a key tool for creating fire-resilient landscapes.
The funded projects will focus on fuel mitigation strategies, including the removal of excess woody debris and ladder fuels, particularly in the Wildland Urban Interface areas surrounding Creston. These efforts aim to reduce the intensity of potential wildfires, creating more fire-resilient forests, improvement of aerial suppression effectiveness, and access for emergency management. reinforces CCF’s commitment to
