The annual Blossom Valley Singers Christmas concert is coming up on Dec. 13, 14, and 15.

According to one Japanese proverb, “One kind word can warm three winter months."  If that’s true, just think how cozy you’ll be after sharing an evening of holiday joy with the Blossom Valley Singers at the annual Christmas concert.

“Almost Christmas” will have three performances to choose from on Dec. 13, 14, and 15. This year’s concert line-up gives a closing nod to the spirit of Creston’s centennial year by honouring the 100th Christmas with a thread of nostalgia weaving throughout the program. The lyrics and images are sure to bring holiday memories to life. What's more, enjoy the warm and rich sounds of harp and violin duet (featuring two choir members), regular guest choir Key of She (with an irregular twist), and guest appearances by one (or maybe two!) of the stars of Creston’s recent Masked Singer competition.

Blossom Valley Singers president Linda Wallace said this season continued the ongoing, post-COVID renewal of this decades-old Creston institution.

“Each season since we started up again after COVID has brought new members into the choir, and this fall’s cohort was no exception, including a larger presence in the ‘not-seniors’ generation. That makes us very happy, and we welcomed a few alumni members back, too, which is really special," she said.

The choir is looking ahead to a long and strong future, as new president Micah Wassink steps to the fore.

“It feels like passing the torch to the next generation of leadership as Micah and others take a place in the behind-the-scenes work of the choir," said Wallace.

And Wassink agreed, ensuring the choir will always encourage and welcome new members and continue spreading the joy of making music together.

“And we can’t stress enough that tenors are ALWAYS in high demand,” she added.

Performances of “Almost Christmas” will be held at the Kootenay River Theatre at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday followed by a matinee show at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets cost $15, or $10 for kids under the age of 12. Find them at Kingfisher Books, Creston Card & Stationery, or online at crestonauditorium.tickit.ca.

Blossom Valley Singers is a non-audition community choir. The next season begins in early to mid-January and culminates with a spring concert around the end of April.
