The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK), has issued an evacuation order in the Whiteswan Lake area as the Mount Morro wildfire (N21014) expands to the north.

The order is for four properties, as well as Home Basin Campground and Inlet Creek Campground on Whiteswan Lake. A copy of the Order and associated map are posted on www.rdek.bc.ca.

“Emergency Services personnel are in the process of doing in-person notification to the affected properties,” said Information Officer Loree Duczek.

The BC Wildfire Service has issued an amended Area Restriction for the Mount Morro fire, which now restricts access to Lussier Hot Springs, Alces Lake, and Whiteswan Provincial Park including the lake itself.

“As these are popular recreational spots, we want the public to be aware of this important amendment to the Area Restriction,” Duczek said.

A copy of the Area Restriction and map along with the latest information on all fires in the region can be found on www.bcwildfire.ca.

An information line has been set up at 250-426-2188 or toll free 1-855-346-2188 and, when not staffed, there will be a recorded message with the most up-to-date information.
