Cranbrook: Mission Hills Golf Under New Ownership
Chris and Kimberly Carrier are the new owners of the Mission Hills Golf Course in Cranbrook. They have revamped the course's restaurant, which they are calling Birdies Kitchen and Bar. Cranbrook: Trucks, Trucks and only Trucks...
Mike Koch, owner of the Mike Koch Automotive Group, has completed a used truck outlet called Arrow Truck Center.
The new "trucks only" dealership is located next to Mike's Car Wash on Cranbrook Street. The automotive group also owns Sun Valley Nissan, Cranbrook Mitsubishi, Arrow Motors (VW) and SVU Cars of Cranbrook.
The City of Cranbrook listed the construction project in a recent report stating, “An overflow shop serving the Nissan dealership for a value of $845,000.”
Sparwood: Six Key Takeaways from Glencore's Purchase of Teck Coal
With the recent Canadian government approval of Glencore’s $6.93 billion acquisition of Teck Resources’ steelmaking coal unit comes a number of key takeaways.
1. Glencore will get 77% of the business in a $6.9 billion cash deal, while 20% will go to Japan’s Nippon Steel, which already holds a 2.5% stake.
2. South Korea’s POSCO will swap a stake in two of Teck’s coal operations for 3% in the steelmaking coal business Elk Valley Resources.
3. Glencore has agreed to maintain Canadian headquarters for Elk Valley Resources (EVR) for at least 10 years.
4. Glencore must ensure a majority of the directors of EVR are Canadians.
5. Glencore must maintain significant employment levels at EVR for no less than five years.
6. As one mining insider observed, “Swiss-based Glencore operates on a European business model which prides itself in efficiency and productivity.”
Cranbrook: Helen Barron Steps Aside at Cranbrook Chamber
The Board of Directors of the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce has announced a leadership change at the organization, with current Executive Director (ED) Helen Barron stepping down to pursue other opportunities.
Helen has been Executive Director for four years. She originally joined the organization in a membership role.
The board also announced that the Interim Executive Director will be Stacey Brensrud, who hails from Revelstoke, where she held a similar position at the Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce.
