Voters will have four opportunities to see Kootenay-Central candidates square off in local debates.
NDP incumbent Brittny Anderson is running for re-election against BC Green Party candidate Nicole Charlwood, Kelly Vandenberghe of the BC Conservatives, and independent candidate Corinne Mori.
Kaslo will host the first debate on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. The event organized by the Kaslo and Area Chamber of Commerce will be at the Kaslo Branch 74 Royal Canadian Legion, 403 5th St.
In Nelson on Thursday, Oct. 3, an all-candidates forum focused on climate change and the environment will take place at Nelson United Church, 602 Silica St. The forum is hosted by West Kootenay Climate Hub, Doctors and Nurses for Planetary Health Kootenay-Boundary, and Nelson-West Kootenay Chapter Council of Canadians. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the forum to begin at 7 p.m.
The Creston Valley Chamber of Commerce hosts a candidates debate Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 7-9 p.m. at the Kootenay River Secondary School Auditorium. Rita Scott will moderate the debate, with candidates answering questions on health care, climate action, housing and the local economy.
Nelson will then host another debate Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Prestige Lakeside Resort. The event, which is run by the Nelson and District Chamber of Commerce, will be moderated by Darren Davidson and Bob Hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the debate planned to run from 7-8:30 p.m.
