Opera season for 2017 - 18 begins on Saturday October 28 at 7.00 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Tuarandot by Giacomo Puccinni in three acts will be shown from the stage at Palau des Arts in Valencia, Italy. This spectular stage production was managed by internationally acclaimed Chinese film director, Chen Kaige.

The opera opened the Festival of the Mediterranean in May 2008 to commemorate the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of Puccinni’s birth. Rubin Metha’s conducting was warmly praised by opera critics, and he received prolonged and enthuiastic applause from both audience and performers.

Rusian soprano Maria Guleghina performs the title role. She acts well and uses her lovely voice to full effect. Tenor Marco Berti does full justice to the demanding role of Prince Calaf.

Pucinni died on November 29 1924, having written most of Turandot. The conclusion of this production was written by Franco Alfano.

We are indebted to the Town of Creston and Areas A and C for their Discretionary Grant towards the purchase of DVD opera productions. The DVD’s will be donated to the Creston Public Library. Here, the use of the meeting room is donated and the big screen enhances DVD productions.
