Web Lead

BONNERS FERRY — The award winning Bonners Ferry Children’s Choir will present the musical Seussical Jr.

It is Dr. Seuss set to some amazing music performed by some of the strongest young performers in the area, at what will become Bonners Ferry’s own Pearl Theatre. This is a chance to see the “oyster” that will become the Pearl Theater this fall and meet its owner Carolyn Testa.

Over 20 young performers will present a show full of laughs, jubilant music and warm hearted Seussical moments in which we can all see ourselves.

Seussical Jr. is performed in conjunction with Music Theatre International of New York, with music, lyrics, book and conception by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. The music was supervised, adapted and produced by Bryan Louiselle.

All the singers are members of Bonners Ferry’s children’s choir, Swingin’ on a Star. Director, choreographer and conductor is Vicki (Blake) Thompson. Assistant directors include Rona Hall, Lisa Palmer, and Holly Robertson.

Swingin’ on a Star began in 1997 and has received all superior ratings at MENC (National Association for Music Education) large group festivals including several perfect scores. It was selected to perform for the State Convention of Idaho Music Edu-cators and have performed with the Spokane Children’s Chorus by invitation. It has also worked with the Seattle and Tacoma Children’s Choirs. Several members have gone on to major in music in college and are currently performing artists.

The performances of Seussical Jr. will be June 11, 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. and June 12 at 3 p.m. Seating is limited to about 75 per performance. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students 18 and under. Children will be encouraged to sit on mats on the floor in front of the stage.

The Pearl Theater (formerly the Community Fellowship Church) is located on Ash Street just off of Highway 95 in downtown Bonners Ferry. Tickets are available at Thompson Chiropractic on Highway 95, from cast members and at the door.
