Morgan Childs, a recipient of three Galaxy Rising Stars at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, will perform modern jazz with three other musicians at the Snoring Sasquatch on Jan. 29.

After 10 years in the Vancouver music scene before moving to Toronto in 2009, Childs has built an international career as a performer, and is highly regarded for his deep swing feel, sensitivity, versatility and musicality, as well as his reverence for jazz history and wide-ranging musical vocabulary.

His current group features three musicians from Toronto with equally impressive pedigrees: multi-award-winning saxophonist Kelly Jefferson, former Boss Brass pianist Dave Restivo and one of Toronto’s most in-demand bassists, Jon Maharaj. Their blend of sophistication and soul is a rare and unique treat!

In 2009, Childs won the Grand Prix du Jazz at the Montreal Jazz Festival, with pianist Amanda Tosoff’s acclaimed quartet. He returned to Montreal in 2012 and won the award again with legendary Hungarian-Canadian pianist Robi Botos. He is one of only a handful of musicians to win the award twice in its 35-year history.

Tickets are $15 in advance at Black Bear Books or Kingfisher Used Books, and $18 at the door, which opens at 6 p.m.; the show starts at 7.
