Rambling Dan will play at the Snoring Sasquatch on April 15.

“Folk troubadour Rambling Dan Frechette’s gritty, road-weary vocals are so suited to the blues, it’s hard to believe that this is his first foray into the genre,” said reviewer Jen Zoratti. “The excellently titled Nothing to Lose but the Blues listens like some obscure, Bob Dylan-era 45 that was uncovered in a thrift shop; it’s as authentic, experienced and soul-on-sleeve as they come. (The only hint of modernity is the fact that there’s a song titled Internet Country Jail.) Indeed, from the slinky, smoky, good-time Charlie Blues through to the rambling man ballad They Call me Mr. Wrong, this is true-blue blues, front to back. More, please.”

Rambling Dan is now touring solo to promote four new albums released in February and March, and visits the Snoring Sasquatch on April 15. He’s been recording all fall and winter and has compiled some of his 1,500 original compositions into separate genre albums including bluegrass, blues, and folk. He has toured Canada several times over the past few years and appeared at many festivals including Winnipeg, Edmonton, Lake Eden Arts, Canso, Mariposa, Islands, Summerfolk, Bismarck Bluegrass, Brandon, Trout Forest and Harvest Moon.

“The tour is going to be a lot of fun,” he said. “I plan to break the sets up into quarter sections so I’m changing gears during each set into a different genre and I love playing intimate venues because the people like to get to know an artist who can play all kinds of music. I do a pretty mean Dylan impression, too.

“I decided to release all these albums because I discovered Bob Dylan he already had 30 albums out. Why wait? I won’t be around forever but I hope my songs will be.”

Rambling Dan has 10 albums to his credit in many different genres. He has composed well-known songs for such bands as the Duhks (Who Will Take My Place?, Mists Of Down Below, You Don’t See It), Dervish (My Bride And I), Emma Cloney (My Canada, My Bride And I, Who Will Take My Place?), Jess Havey (Dance and Play), and the Ploughboys (Who Will Take My Place?).

The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30. Tickets $10 in advance, available at Kingfisher Used Books and Black Bear Books, or $12 at the door.
