Creston's Snoring Sasquatch will host Jonathan Ferguson and the Friendly Fire on Aug. 26.
This summer, Canadian folk-rocker Jonathan Ferguson and his band the Friendly Fire are on the road, and the guitar/guitar/keytar trio will be stopping in Creston to play at the legendary Snoring Sasquatch on Aug. 26.
With thought provoking lyrics, catchy melodies and a guitar style all his own, folk-rock singer-songwriter Jonathan Ferguson is on his way to establishing himself as one of Canada’s most promising emerging talents.
“Folk-rock music is about the people,” he said. “The best songs, to me, are the ones that everyone can hear a little bit of themselves in.”
Complimenting the inventive writing is a percussive, half-picking, half-strumming guitar style, which is exciting both to hear and to watch.
“I can’t really explain it — I was breaking too many strings and I needed to put a stop to that,” Ferguson joked.
On stage, Ferguson is accompanied by his band the Friendly Fire, featuring fellow singer-songwriters David Andrew Wiebe (front man for the David Andrew Wiebe Band) and Simon T-J (of the band Diatessaron) on lead guitar and keytar, respectively.
Ferguson is currently putting the finishing touches on his first full-length album, Sweeter After Difficulties, to be released this year. For more information and to have a listen to his unique mix of folk, rock and pop, check out his Myspace page at myspace.com/jonathanferguson.
Doors to the Aug. 26 show open at 7:30 p.m.; the show starts at 8:30. Tickets are $10 in advance at Kingfisher Used Books and Black Bear Books, and $12 at the door.
