Jon Burden — of the award-winning blues duo, Holly and Jon — has created a new musical project and will be showcasing it at the Snoring Sasquatch on July 11.

The Jon Burden Band is a contemporary, Texas blues-rock band in the tradition of the blues power trios (guitar, bass and drums) of Chicago that made a living playing the west side blues clubs in the late 1950s and early 1960s and particularly the most influential of them all, Freddie King, who was from Texas.

The band pays tribute to the electric blues of post-war America while carefully bringing the genre into the present, with smokin’ versions of blues/rock classics by Eric Clapton, ZZ Top and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

The band — Jon Burden (electric guitar and vocals), Rob Van der Laan (bass guitar and vocals) and Steve Wilson (drums) — has a decidedly Texas flavor, as a lot of their music was originally done by Texas musicians such as Freddie King, Buddy Holly, Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan.

Advance tickets are $12 at Black Bear Books, Kingfisher Used Books and Buffalo Trails Coffee House, and $15 at the door; teens can purchase tickets at the door for $7. The doors open at 7 p.m.; the show begins at 8.
