The title event of Giuseppe Verdi’s 'Un Ballo in Maschera'

Giuseppe Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera (A Masked Ball) will be shown at Creston Public Library at 7 p.m. April 26. The opera is a 1991 Metropolitan Opera production with James Levine conducting, and leading roles played by Luciano Pavarotti and Aprile Millo.

Pavarotti described the role of King Gustavus III as the one he would select if forced to sing only one in his lifetime. He loved it because of the great variety portrayed in the singing. Although urged to take on the role from his early years in opera, Pavarotti insisted on waiting until his voice was appropriately developed. Millo was marked as a Verdi soprano from early years in her singing career.

The story unfolds in 1972 Stockholm and reflects palace intrigue, forbidden love, and tragedy.

This will be the final opera before summer recess. All are welcome and there is no charge.
