Mama's Blues is a painting by Cranbrook's Marisa Phillips that will be featured in the Art in the Library show.

The summer Art in the Library display is going to be a work in progress featuring a number of First Nations artists from the Ktunaxa Nation. The recent floods and road closures made travel difficult and a number of the expected artworks have not arrived, but the exhibit is starting with a selection of pieces from local artists.

Many Creston Valley residents are familiar with the wonderful detail work done by Margaux Allard but you will find some charming boy’s moccasins, lovely beadwork earrings by Alisha Louie, and a fascinating painting by Cranbrook artist Marisa Phillips (above). As the summer progresses organizers hope to add art by Karen Friedlander, Julie Draper, Mike White, Dustinnaya Duteau Jimmy and others. Some of the art depicts traditional art themes while some embraces the modern world and all of it is worth seeing.

Make sure you stop in at the library often during the summer to see the new art that will be filling out the display, which is sponsored by the Community Arts Council of Creston and the Creston Public Library. The exhibit runs from June 29-Sept. 7. If you would like to see your art displayed at the library next year, contact Val at 250-855-5772.
