The Friends of the Cinema’s popular film series continues on March 19 with a screening of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Starring Gary Oldman, often described as the best current actor never to have won an Oscar, the movie is based on  John Le Carre’s series of spy thrillers.

In Tinker, Tailor, Oldman plays agent George Smiley, who has been brought out of forced retirement to investigate a senior government official’s conviction that a mole is at work in British Intelligence. Smiley takes on the role with his usual quiet efficiency.

Oldman was nominated for an Academy Award for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, but lost to John Dujardin, who stars in The Artist, which will also be shown in this spring’s series.

Tinker, Tailor screens at 7:30 p.m. on March 19. Proceeds from the series are donated to local groups like Friends of the Library and the Prince Charles Theatre.
