Singer and piano player Jenie Thai has been rapidly building a musical presence throughout the country with her electric stage energy and the old soul that is translated through her songs, which she will perform at the Snoring Sasquatch on July 3.

With a voice spanning more than three octaves, a lifetime of piano playing and a unique combination of folk, blues, soul and rock influences, Thai has been receiving international accolades.

“This girl is truly an old bluesy soul with a style all her own and a drive to succeed that will undoubtedly lead to a life of music, fame and fortune,” said Adam Earle in Sun Peaks News.

In 2012, she received an honourable mention from the International Songwriting Competition (which received more than 16,000 submissions from around the globe) and this year, she represented Northern Alberta as a semi-finalist in the 30th International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn.

With the release of her new album, Only The Moon, Thai has been receiving airplay across North America from Florida to New York, and coast to coast across Canada. Following the release, Thai was nominated as artist to watch (2013) and female artist of the year (2014) from the Edmonton Music Awards. Only The Moon showcases her emotionally driven songwriting blended with her large vocal range and effortlessly tasteful piano, but her live performance is where Thai shines; she consistently leaves her heart on the stage.

“The 20-something-year-old classically trained pianist with a love of jazz and blues is ready to fly far with Only The Moon, a beautifully crafted nine-song album of original songs showcasing a voice that has warmth and beauty,” said David Farrell of New Canadian Music.

Doors to the concert open at 7 p.m.; the show begins at 8. Tickets are available in advance at Kingfisher Used Books, Black Bear Books and Buffalo Trails Coffee House.
