Creston is going to be bursting with art this summer! What a treat for residents and visitors! The Art in the Library and the Art in the Chamber displays are a part of this explosion of colour and energy.

The Art in Library exhibit is called “Cloth, Paper, Water — 3 Friends, 3 Mediums”. Featuring Win Dinn, Eileen Gidman and Laura Leeder, this display will fill the library with variety, texture and color. It is always exciting to see what new techniques these well-known local artists are sharing: Gelli plate backgrounds, stitching, stamping and sponging, or adding pen to delicate watercolour. The Art in the Library show runs through Aug. 30 so everyone will have lots of time to check it out.

The Art in the Chamber display features the Artistic Visions summer art market. The variety of art from 15 local artists is sure to offer something for every person that enters the Visitor Center. They will find exquisite still lifes and landscapes in oil, cunning metal sculptures, delicate watercolors and bold acrylics, mixed media and glass jewelry, fun painted fabric and fabulous photographs. The regular Artistic Visions group is joined by three guest artists this year: Guy Hobbs with his wonderful wildlife art, Linda Bullock and her sumptuous silk scarves, and some members of the Valley Mudders with their lovely pottery. From Monday-Saturday, one of the artists will be on-site to talk to visitors about the art and to help with purchases. This year, during the Columbia Basin Culture tour on Aug. 9 and 10, Artistic Visions members will be demonstrating some of their techniques, and we hope that lots of area residents will come to see what we are doing. The Art in the Chamber exhibit runs July 1-Sept. 4.

These community art displays are sponsored by the Community of Creston Arts Council, the Creston Valley Public Library and the Creston Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Centre to enable artists from Yahk to Riondel to share their art with the community. The displays are a wonderful opportunity for locals and visitors to see the wonderful art and talent of local artists.
