Creston born and raised Adam Winn has announced the release this week of a new single, Song for the North, that will be included on an album in the spring.

The song, a tribute to his adopted home in Fort Saint John and Northern BC, includes the lyric, “This is the place where I’ll grow old, so you can keep your rainy coast. I’ll stay right here in the north and raise a glass to the hardest working people in the land.”

Winn usually returns to Creston to visit family each summer, and has become a popular performer during his short stays.

Winn took to the bass guitar at age 11, followed by acoustic and electric guitar soon after. He began studying classical voice study at age 16 and went on to represent his hometown at the provincials in 2003. In college, he studied voice for two more years and received an A.A. in music in 2006. After the birth of his first child in 2008 Winn embraced his love of storytelling through grassroots music with enthusiastic support from his friends.

Coincidentally, at the Creston Valley Music Teacher Association concerts on the weekend, Adam Winn was mentioned as one of the previous recipients of the association’s annual education bursary.

Along with Song of the North, a second single, Suzannah, and will be included in the Roots album that he is recording at Ryan McAllister’s Five Acres Studio in Abbotsford.

Roots will be Winn’s first full-length album, and follows up his successful self-titled EP, which was released at a sold out party in 2017. He then set out on a 12-show tour of Western Canada, getting solid reviews and gaining lots of new fans.

“Winn’s voice conveys a sense of passionate energy that makes the songs emanate an emotive force beyond measure,” the Huffington Post said.
