Over 9,500 Kootenay Central voters have cast their ballots ahead of Saturday's provincial election.

Statistics provided by Elections B.C. show 9,579 voters have made their choice after advance polling ended Wednesday.

The Kootenay Central riding, which was expanded for this election to include Nakusp, Silverton and New Denver, has 33,265 registered voters, although residents can still register ahead of casting their ballot on Oct. 19. The Nelson-Creston riding in 2020 had 17,462 total votes cast.

Provincially, B.C. has broken a record for advance voting with 1,001,331 ballots compared to the 671,231 cast in 2020.

B.C. NDP incumbent Brittny Anderson is running against B.C. Green Party candidate Nicole Charlwood, B.C. Conservatives candidate Kelly Vandenberghe, and independent candidate Corinne Mori.
