In the spirit of the new pool, Creston Valley Music Teachers’ Association challenged their students to “go the distance”. In the same way a swimmer puts in hours of practice laps, piano or violin students put in a lot of time practicing their instrument. So the students were challenged to meet a goal of practice laps, based on 15 minutes per lap.

Jan. 27 is Family Literacy Day, a day set aside across Canada to encourage families to participate in literacy activities, not just on this day but throughout the year.

Farmers are inherently an optimistic bunch. No matter what Mother Nature or the marketplace throws at them, there is always next season, next year, when the conditions might be better. And that happens enough to keep many on the farms, year after year — much to the benefit of the eaters amongst us.
