The Student Services Hub opened at PCSS in February 2018. The Hub is a unique collaboration between School District 8 and community service providers. The Hub offers high school students a safe environment to access academic support from school counsellors as well as support for their physical and emotional health from community professionals.

The Hub provides clinic days on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 8:45 to 11:30. Students are able to book an appointment with a Public Health Nurse on Wednesdays or a Doctor on Thursdays. Counsellors and Outreach Workers are available on both Wednesdays and Thursdays to meet with students. Hub appointments are 20-30 minutes in length after which students return to class. The Hub’s accessibility encourages students to be more aware of and proactive in their personal physical, and emotional health.

From its opening in February 2018 to the end of the school session in June 2018, The Hub provided 31 clinic sessions and was accessed through appointments 240 times. Feedback gathered from surveys and evaluations give evidence to the popularity and usefulness of the program. The response has been very positive and supportive, and both students and staff report that the Hub has contributed to enhancing the environment of PCSS.

On September 13th the Hub re-opened its doors for the 2018/2019 school year and is geared up for another busy season. Community partners and service providers continue to be committed to the program and are excited to be part of the evolution of this unique local service.
