Brandon Salviulo's family is hosting a fundraiser in his honour in Riondel from Sept. 9-11.

All are encouraged to have fun and raise funds in Riondel this weekend as the Salviulo family honours Brandon Salviulo, an East Shore resident who was killed in an ATV accident in 2009.

His lifelong dream was to become a firefighter and, in his memory, his family has created a scholarship fund for professional firefighter certificate training at the College of the Rockies to help others fulfill their dream of becoming a firefighter. This $1,000 scholarship is funded by money raised during the annual Brandon Salviulo Scholarship Memorial Weekend, and is managed by the Creston-Kootenay Foundation. Last year, over $10,000 was raised toward the scholarship fund.

This year, the memorial scholarship weekend takes place of Sept. 9-11, and will include a slo-pitch tournament, a four-on-four street hockey tournament, a golf tournament and two nights of bingo. New this year is a children’s supervised play area and games. There will also be food venues such as a hamburger stand and pancake breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday.
