About 270 Creston Valley elementary school students were bused to the Lower Kootenay Band complex on Friday to participate in National Aboriginal Day activities, which included face-painting and joining the Lower Kootenay Band drummers to pound out a beat that filled the room.
During the event, Lower Kootenay Band Chief Jason Louie arrived with other cyclists who completed a trip from Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to raise awareness of diabetes.
In Creston that afternoon, Louie and Creston and District Public Library chief librarian Aaron Francis unveiled a new welcome sign at the library. The sign is among several initiatives designed to forge closer ties between the LKB and the library.
