The next installment of the Creston Valley Public Library’s Great Outdoors speaker series is Wild Medicine set for 7 p.m. April 14 in the library meeting room. Join medical herbalist Rachel Beck as she shares her passion for the medicinal plants found throughout the Creston Valley and the ways in which they can be safely harvested and used. Your walk in the woods enjoying the great outdoors can also be quite productive!

From elderberries to high bush cranberries, from oregon grape root to nettle, the Creston Valley is abundant in a wide range of wild plants that have medicinal and food value. In this lively presentation, Beck will introduce you to some of these amazing plants, where to find them, when to harvest them, how this can be done responsibly, and how they can be used safely. You will leave with a whole new appreciation of the flora of our region and how it can support your good health.

Beck has been a practicing medical herbalist for over 25 years having trained both in Canada and the U.K. Originally from the West Coast, she relocated to the Creston Valley in 1998, where she now teaches the very successful herbal practitioner program offered through the College of the Rockies, has a private natural healthcare practice, and is co-owner of Tilia Botanicals Ltd.
