Kootenay Lake East Shore author Ellen Burt will be reading at the Creston Valley Public Library on Nov. 15.

The Creston Valley Public Library is pleased to welcome longtime East Shore resident Ellen Burt as she reads from her first book.

Part memoir, part nature writing and part adventure story, Burt’s book, When the Path is Not a Straight Line, tells of a life lived in deep contact with the natural world.

In the words of fellow Kootenay Lake author Luanne Armstrong, “This book reflects the wisdom of someone who looks with a clear and intense gaze at life and has written wonderfully perceptive tales of bears, boats, owls, natural disasters, ancient cedars and more. There is wisdom and understanding, some of it hard won, in these stories.”

Graphite drawings by artist Osieau accompany each chapter.

Burt has lived at the north end of Kootenay Lake for 40 years. Her stories and poems have been published in the Purcell Suite, Horsefly literary magazine and Elephant Mountain Review. She was a winner in the 2010 Kootenay Literary Awards. Burt is active in the Nelson writers’ community, including the Nelson Poetry Slam.

When the Path is Not a Straight Line is her first full-length book. This tour of the book is supported by the Kootenay Columbia Cultural Alliance.

Burt will be at the Creston Valley Public Library at 7 p.m. Nov. 15. All are welcome. For more information, call the library at 250-428-4141.
