The Lower Kootenay Band recently accepted a cheque for $1,500 from Fortis BC to help fund a mural of past elders in the administration office foyer.

The mural, painted by Creston’s Cory Cannon, features the faces of past elders David Luke, Wilfred Jacobs, Isobel Louie, Charlotte Basil and Louis White.

“I am very proud to see this mural everyday when I come to work,” said LKB administrative assistant Lisa Three Feathers. “To see the past elders’ faces is a sight of beauty. Their wisdom and knowledge are great reminders of where we as Ktunaxa people have been, where we are and where we’re heading in the future. We are a very strong Nation who hold great respect for our elders.

“I can feel the strength and warmth from these elders looking down from the stars and watching over us.”
