Maria Berger, a former longtime Creston resident, celebrated her 100th birthday in Lacombe, Alta., at the Lacombe Memorial Centre on April 25 with guests coming from Creston, Saskatchewan and across Alberta.

Berger is a first-generation Canadian. Her parents came to Canada from Ukraine in 1910, and homesteaded in Saskatchewan.

She wanted to live to be 100 to get birthday greetings from the Queen, which arrived days before her 100th birthday on April 23.
