A June 10th by-election to fill the Creston Town Council seat left vacant by the passing of Joe Snopek late in 2016 will have five names on the ballot.

Adam Casemore, at the age of 32, is the youngest of the candidates and is a self-employed mason.

Bill Hutchinson, a former Town of Creston CEO, was an unsuccessful candidate for mayor in 2014.

Signe Miller, a volunteer active in many community organizations, has not previously run for public office.

Hugh Taylor works as a consultant to First Nations communities in the Kootenays and Montana.

Scott Veitch, who owns Century 21 - Veitch Realty, leads in the name familiarity race, having been a Creston Town Councillor from 2011-2014. He did not seek re-election for a second term.

“It’s good to see so much interest,” Mayor Ron Toyota said on Monday. “This is a good chance for a newcomer to gain some valuable experience, and our current Town Council looks forward to welcoming a new member.”

The new councillor will have 16 months in the position before the next municipal elections are held on October 20, 2018.
