Erickson Community Association hosting annual Harvest Potluck

Erickson Community Association has focused on improving life of residents for past 10 years...

The Erickson Community Association is 10 years old this month, and will host its annual Harvest Potluck on Nov. 18.

A meeting of Erickson residents was held in November 2005 to see whether Erickson residents were in favor of changing the Erickson Water Users Society to become the Erickson Community Association. The vote was carried and a new association grew out of the old.

The purpose of the volunteer organization is to:

•endeavor to improve the lives of Erickson citizens by addressing issues that will impact their economic, social, and environmental health and well-being;

•through organizational decision making, voluntary input, long-range planning and education, work to provide resources to develop structure and support that will foster community economic growth and enhance the ability of individuals to experience educational, financial and spiritual growth; and

•allow the community of Erickson residents to meet together and share experiences, which will create a better understanding of the community, its history and the people of Erickson.

Over the last 10 years, the association has dealt with a number of issues of concern for local residents. Water has continued to be a major focal point; however, it has also addressed issues regarding road upkeep and safety issues, highway lighting, fire services and more. The community association also is a shareholder in the Creston Community Forest Corporation. It provides a voice for Erickson residents and organizes the annual Harvest Potluck.

This year’s Harvest Potluck will be held in the Erickson Elementary School gymnasium at 6 p.m. (with the annual general meeting to follow). The organization hopes Erickson residents will come out to meet more of their friends and neighbours — and bring a favorite casserole, salad or dessert and share a meal.
