On the May long weekend, Creston’s waste water treatment plant was officially opened, with Creston Mayor Ron Toyota, Nelson-Creston MLA Michelle Mungall and Kootenay Columbia member of Parliament David Wilks present for the ribbon cutting.

The upgrades totalled $7.2 million, with $4.7 million coming from the federal and provincial governments. The funding was received in 2009, but the original design and tenders were too costly, so a more economical redesign was used.

Construction on the upgraded plant began in August 2012, after contracts were awarded to the team of Maple Reinders and Urban Systems at the March 27, 2012, council meeting.
