A new season of classes has started up at the Creston Valley Yoga Studio (CVYS). The studio, located at 1017A Canyon St., was opened in March by owner and yoga instructor Samantha Nevalainen and is going strong.

The studio hosts seven instructors that offer a range of classes, and you’ll find something for everyone — beginners, teens, families, pre-natal, flow yoga, hot yoga, gentle yoga and even yoga-on-the-go, a new noon hour class.

Yoga instructor Cathleen McCarthy recently returned from the Wake Up Festival held in the U.S. The CVYS is pleased to be hosting a series of visual talks from the presenters at the Wake Up Festival. These are inspiring talks from well-known and respected spiritual teachers and authors on the subject of awakened consciousness. The series will include Adyashanit, Caroline Myss, Reginald Ray, Geneen Roth, Jack Kornfield, Gangaji and others. Talks will be held on Friday evenings at the yoga studio beginning with Myss on Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $2 per person.

Workshops are a great opportunity for growth. The CVYS is hosting two upcoming workshops. The first is Tibetan monk Losang Samten (www.losangsamten.com). He is traveling throughout B.C. and will be presenting a three-day meditation workshop from Sept. 30-Oct.2. The workshop will encompass walking, sitting and movement meditation, as well as dharma talks. The cost is $150 for all three days; registration is required.

The second workshop is a yoga workshop called More than Asana, with well-known and loved Marion (Mugs) McConnell on Oct. 12 and 13. This two-day workshop is split in to three sessions; Friday evening will encompass mandala salutation and meditation, Saturday morning will cover bandhas, pranayama and asanas, and Saturday afternoon will involve deepening asanas into full body mudras. Each session is $40 plus HST or all three for $115 plus HST. For information or to register, contact Gail Thompson at 250-866-5474 or smilingheartyoga@wynndel.ca.
