The group led by Linda Fox and Carol Hack finished offering their daily dinner to visiting fruit pickers on Friday. Nearly 300 pickers enjoyed dinner for 10 weekdays from July 11-22.
Volunteers were appreciative of the support of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, which offered its parking lot as a space for serving and dining, as well as local businesses. Golden Flour Bakery sent daily donations of baked goods, and Overwaitea Foods lent support. Extra Foods donated food and supplies, as well as the services of volunteers Michelle and Kaitlyn. Fresh produce also came from Frank and Barb Wloka and Bill Truscott.
“The pickers were the best people and could not have been more polite, thankful and loving to us,” said volunteer Muriel Buhr. “It was a wonderful experience. We will treasure it forever and improve on it next year.”
