It has been a busy time for Creston Valley Toastmasters Club.

On Feb. 13 it held the international speech and evaluation contest. First place winner of the speech contest was Richard Chlopecki with “Three Voices From the Past”. First place winner of the evaluation contest was Barb West.

Both moved on to the area contest to compete against the winners of two Cranbrook clubs, Golden and Sparwood. The area contest was held on March 15 and hosted by Creston Club, with food and the venue supplied by A Break in Time Caffé.

The winner was Melanie Holloway from Cranbrook Phoenix in the international speech contest with “Are You Going to Stand Up?” Second was Chlopecki.

Winner of the evaluation contest was David Farrell from Cranbrook Phoenix club, and second was West.

Both first and second place winners will move on to the division contest, which will be held at College of the Rockies in Cranbrook on April 12.

For the past five months, the Creston club has been honoured to have Sena Hasumi as a member. Hasumi is the Rotary club exchange student from Japan and we have been enjoying her so much. Members will truly miss her, both personally and as a club, when the time comes for her to return to Japan.

Creston Valley Toastmasters meets from 7-9 p.m. every Thursday evening in the Redeemer Lutheran Church basement. Guests are welcome.
