What do you get when you toss a few seeds into a manure pile? A Little Shop of Horrors-esque takeover by squash, judging by the yard of Lister residents Wendy and Allan Midtdal (below).

Meanwhile, in Creston, a giant plant (right) looms over the yard of Larry Ewashen, who grew — and not for the first time — a 12-foot sunflower this summer. His brothers, Alex (left) and Bob, posed beside it to give readers a sense of its size.
