Creston Valley Bird Fest chair Tanna Patterson hands winning artist Bruce Paterson a cheque for winning the festival’s art competition for the second time.

Creston artist Bruce Paterson has been named the Creston Valley Bird Fest artist for 2014.

This is the second year for the festival, a committee of the Creston Valley branch of Wildsight, and the second Paterson has become the festival artist. Great Horned Owl will promote the festival in posters and on the program cover, and can be viewed on Facebook and the festival website, www.crestonvalleybirds.ca.

The committee extends its thanks to the 15 other artists who submitted artwork, and to the art and bird savvy judges who contributed their expertise to the selection. The public will have an opportunity to purchase Great Horned Owl during the bird festival, which runs May 9-11.

It includes nine birding tours, seven bird-filled presentations, a photography workshop with Jim Lawrence, and nine events including a medicinal plant tour, a college greenhouse tour and an art studio tour. And there will be bats, plus local food and drink as only Creston can do.

Registration opens March 1. To make a tax-deductible contribution, visit www.wildsight.ca or send it to #2 495 Wallinger Ave., Kimberley, B.C., V1A 1Z6. Aspiring volunteers are welcome to call festival chair Tanna Patterson at 250-428-5246.
