The Town of Creston Spirit Committee extends its appreciation to the volunteer organizations and community members who participated in the April 11 Volunteer Appreciation Day at the Creston and District Community Complex. Eighteen non-profit organizations set up free booths at the Creston Valley Farmers’ Market to showcase the wide range of volunteer opportunities in the community. Groups included Gleaners, the Creston Valley Bird Fest, Spectrum Farms and the Creston Valley Community Housing Society.

Leading up to the event, community groups nominated their organization’s “awesome volunteers”. A total of over 80 submissions were collected. Five random volunteers were drawn, each winning a $50 gift certificate to local restaurants (in which the restaurants matched a $25 contribution from the Spirit Committee). Winners were Eileen Warnock (Creston Valley Public Library for Jimmy’s Pub and Grill), Terry Posynick (Creston Valley Bird Fest for Retro Café), Mary Griffioen (Creston Valley Youth Soccer Association for Gin’s on Canyon), Helena White (public library for Chatka) and Munro Albert (Creston Judo Club for Real Food Cafe).
