The First Creston Scouts went to the Pacific Jamboree from July 9-16 at Camp Byng on the Sunshine Coast.

A jamboree is when scouts from all over the world get together in one camp. This camp had 3,500 campers, with half from B.C. and most of the rest from the rest of Canada. There were also groups from United States, England and Australia.

The theme was Lord of the Rings and activities were related to the books and movies. The Creston troop got to scale the Black Tower (climbing wall), go sailing and go on Frodo’s Quest, plus many more. Frodo’s Quest was an afternoon of team challenges — blindfolds, obstacles, towers and an aerial challenge loop over 200 metres long between old growth cedars two or more metres off the ground.

Frodo’s Quest was the highlight for each scout. “It was really fun,” and, “That was awesome,” were heard from the participants.

The scouts extend their appreciation to the Town of Creston (grant in aid through Columbia Basin Trust), Regional District of Central Kootenay areas A and B (Columbia Basin Trust) and the province of British Columbia (Community Gaming Grant) for their support, as well as the scouting families and all the people in the valley for supporting fundraising efforts of popcorn sales, sandbags and cookie dough.
