An India pale ale brewed by Creston’s Ken Smith at Creston Valley U-Brew earned third place in the Kootenai River Brewing Company’s second annual homebrew contest on Sept. 29. First place went to a Scottish brew ale, and second went to a pale ale.

The brewery has been open 14 months, and makes seven beers — five year-round and two seasonal — with hops from a farm in Porthill, all served at its restaurant in downtown Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
