The inaugural Brandon Salviulo Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 was recently presented to Adam Ravenstein, a student in College of the Rockies fire services program.

The Salviulo family has raised over $40,000 so far in memory of their son, Brandon, who passed away in a tragic ATV accident in 2009. With the help of the Creston-Kootenay Foundation, which is managing the funds, the Salviulo’s are honouring Brandon’s dream of becoming a firefighter.

Ravenstein, a student in the fire training certificate program, was very happy to be the first recipient of this scholarship.

“I am honoured to be chosen,” he said. “I love what I’m doing so having this scholarship helps me to feel even better about going to school.”

Presenting the scholarship to Ravenstein was an emotional experience for Brandon’s parents, Enzo and Laurel, as they saw their dream of honouring their son realized. They are grateful for all the help the received along the way.

“Enzo, Morgan, Bryanna and I would like to thank all of the volunteers, businesses and participants for all of the donations over the last three years that allowed us to create this scholarship in Brandon’s name,” said Laurel. “We want each and every person who helped out to feel that they are a part of this scholarship.”

Information regarding the fundraising efforts for this fund can be found on the Brandon Salviulo Memorial Scholarship Facebook page.
