Two College of the Rockies business administration students walked away from the Western Canadian International Business Competition as winners. The competition, held in Kelowna March 22-24, had participants from institutions across Canada.

Each team, consisting of four students, participated in a computerized simulation that replicated the running of a computer tablet company. College of the Rockies’ team consisted of chief executive officer Melanie Whitnack, chief financial officer Jennifer LaVallee, chief marketing officer Kieren Britton and chief operating officer Clayton Fenrick, from Creston.

A panel of judges evaluated the teams, and individual team members, on their business knowledge, their strategic plan, operations performance and presentation of skills. The judges also challenged each team member to defend their business choices in one-to-one interviews.

At the conclusion of the competition Kieren Britton was awarded the silver award for her marketing efforts while Jennifer LaVallee earned the finance bronze award.

“I am very proud of our entire team,” said Elaine Eccleston, College of the Rockies business instructor and team coach. “It was a terrific learning experience for everyone and it was great to see Kieren and Jennifer rewarded for their hard work.”
