A fundraiser honouring Brandon Salviulo will be held in Riondel from Sept. 7-9.

The third annual Brandon Salviulo Memorial Fundraiser is set for Sept. 7-9 in Riondel.

This fundraiser is building a scholarship for the firefighter certificate program at the College of the Rockies, in honour of Brandon Salviulo, who died in an ATV accident in 2009. The scholarship is $1,000 to be given each year to a student that meets the requirements and is a resident of the Kootenay region between the ages of 20 and 25 who has shown to be an active volunteer in their community. The worthy student will be chosen by the college.

Once again, there are some great prizes and surprises donated from Kootenay businesses and from friends both near and far. The weekend is a family style sports weekend that includes mixed slo-pitch, a two-person best ball golf tournament, four-on-four street hockey, a silent auction, a supervised kids play area, and, for adults only, two evenings of prize bingo and a prize poker tournament.

And there will be plenty of food, with a pancake breakfast Saturday and Sunday at Bob’s Bar and Grill and a hamburger/hotdog stand at the ballfield on Saturday and Sunday.

Donations are welcome at the Nelson and District Credit Union’s East Shore branch.

For more information about the weekend, call 250-225-3252 or 250-777-2259. For information about the firefighter certificate training program, visit www.cotr.bc.ca.
