How does Creston’s Ingrid Voigt, who leads the BC Refederation Party, like the announcement of Gordon Campbell’s impending appointment to the Order of British Columbia? Not so much.
And she has 3,229 supporters — and counting — on a Facebook page she has started to allow others to express their concern. Called “Gordon Campbell does not Deserve the Order of BC award”, the page has gained attention around the province and made CBC Radio news last week.
Campbell would become only the second premier to receive such recognition, but Voigt says under the nomination rules, his appointment should be declared null and void. Better yet, he should do the right thing and decline the honour, she said. Campbell was nominated for the award before he left elected office, something that the nomination rules don’t allow, Voigt told the country’s national broadcaster this week.
