Creston veterinarian-turned-author Dave Perrin will be at the Creston library on Oct. 22.

When your patients may bite, scratch or kick it helps to have a great sense of humour. Veterinarian turned author Dave Perrin has that and more. He turns amusing anecdotes into hilarious, compassionate stories.

Perrin’s practice in the Creston Valley is the source of his well-loved series, Adventures of a Country Vet. Reading the books embroils us in a world quite different than our idealized version of what it would be like to be a veterinarian. The reality is sometimes shocking and gross, but with Dr. Dave telling it is very entertaining.

To maintain artistic and financial control of his work, Perrin decided to try something that is becoming more common, self-publishing. In 2000, Dave’s Press was established and his first book in the Adventures of a Country Vet series, Don’t Turn Your Back in the Barn, was published. It was followed with the release of Dr. Dave’s Stallside Manner (2001), Where Does it Hurt? (2003), Never Say Die (2006) and When the Going Gets Tough (2010). More information about Perrin, the press and the books can be found at www.davespress.com.

You can meet Dave Perrin and listen to the stories he has to tell when he visits the Creston and District Public Library at 7 p.m. Oct. 22.

Everyone is welcome to this free event, brought to you by the Kootenay Library Federation and the Creston library. For more information, contact the library at 250-428-4141 or visit www.crestonlibrary.com.
