Thirteen adult students earned their diploma and graduated from the College of the Rockies this year. Some are moving on to the Cranbrook campus or other colleges away from the Kootenays.

The College of the Rockies is pleased to announce that 13 students have completed their Adult Graduation Diploma at the Creston campus this year. These hardworking individuals successfully finished their Grade 12 English and Grade 11 math, as well as three other provincial-level courses in order to obtain their diplomas, which are equivalent to high school graduation.

For various reasons (often valid), some students drop out of high school before completion. For other people, their career paths change and they now realize they need graduation as a pre-requisite to further training. COTR Creston fills that gap and offers the full Adult Graduation Diploma.

“What an accomplishment to have so many adult graduates this year,” said manager Kathy Tompkins. “Coming to school and also arranging childcare, work schedules, family responsibilities — our students should be proud of their accomplishments!”

Paula Harper and Kim Asquith, instructors in the adult basic education classroom, are amazed at the perseverance and dedication of many of their students. A few of the graduates are transferring to the Cranbrook campus either on-site or online into office or business administration or a bachelor of arts program. Other students are entering the Creston licensed practical nursing program this fall, and still others are heading to the Okanagan or Alberta for college programs not offered so close to home.

The instructors wish every one of our graduates great success in the years ahead.

Anyone wanting to complete their Diploma, or wanting a specific course (such as Algebra 11 or Biology 12), should contact the education advisor at 250-428-5332 to set up an appointment. Classes are self-paced to fit schedules (days and some evenings).
