Bring out your poodle skirts and saddle shoes—rock and roll is coming to Creston this weekend.

The summer concert series presented by Stay Live Productions continues on Saturday evening when The Rockin’ 58s take to the stage.

The band hails from Calgary and has been playing rock and roll classics since 2011, performing the harmony, melody, groove and memorable lyrics with an irresistible backbeat.

The Rockin’ 58s love the romantic sensibility of the genre, and they reproduce the music with full-on teenage energy.

“There’s just no substitute for old time rock and roll,” concert organizer Velle Weitman said on Monday. “We at Stay Live Productions feel the Creston Valley will absolutely love this quartet, and they are in for a really fabulous show!”

Opening the evening’s entertainment will be Miah Staggs of Wynndel. Staggs has been playing music since he was old enough to reach the piano keys, but his instrument of choice is the guitar.

From a young age Staggs was intrigued by the workings of musical instruments, particularly guitars. In search of answers to his many questions, he pursued a career in luthierie. He is now working in his own shop, and building his own custom instruments.

Staggs is currently accompanied by his long time friend Erich Schmidt on bass guitar, and his new friend Jordan Lysenko on drums. The three play a mostly original set of song that Staggs has written, along with a few covers.

Gates open for the August 18 concert at 5 pm. Food and beverages are available on site. Tickets are available at the Ramada, Black Bear Books and Fly in the Fibre.
