An expanded Hound ’n’ Mouser has filled one of several empty spaces at the Creston Valley Mall. The formerly home-based grooming business has expanded to now offer food, toys and supplies.

“I really love grooming, but I always wanted a mom and pop store,” said owner and groomer Laryssa Pugh. “It was really hard telling people their dog was matted, then sending them down the street to buy a comb.”

She also wanted to create jobs and so far has two part-time employees in the shop, which has lines of grain- and preservative-free foods — including raw food made in Cranbrook.

Various local businesses have donated door prizes to the store’s grand opening, which runs all day Saturday.

The new store has been open less than two weeks, but the response has already been positive.

“A lot of people like the change,” said Pugh. “We’re getting lots of positive feedback. They can drop off their dog, go and get their groceries and the dog’s been groomed.”
