With summer over, Creston Valley’s Visitor Centre saw an increase in the number of tourists that visited this year. July through August, statistics show that roughly 600 more tourists came through the doors of the centre this year as compared to the same time last year. These same statistics show that slightly more visitors came later in the summer making August the busiest month of the summer. Effects of the surrounding fires may have affected the number of visitors to the Creston Valley.

“This year tourist interests included Creston Valley’s wineries, local arts, culture and agriculture. Popular local activities and services included Creston’s downtown walking tour, our award winning farmer’s market, local u-pick orchards, the organic dairy farm and the Creston Wildlife Interpretation Centre.” said Amy Maddess the manager of the Creston Valley Visitor Centre.

As the fires progressed throughout the summer tourists had a variety of concerns regarding the smoke, locations of the fire and highway conditions. Many tourists requested more detailed travel and weather information. The Creston Valley Visitor Centre will continue to stay open year round providing tourists with detailed information on local businesses, community activities and attractions. Amenities provided by the centre include washrooms, free wifi and an electric vehicle charging station.
