Richard (Rick) Kenneth Thomas
September 30, 1951 ~ March 17, 2017
Son of Rae and Doris Thomas, Ymir, B.C., Rick worked 39 years in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Construction Engineer with postings in Chilliwack, Holberg, Edmonton, Cold Lake, Winnipeg, Quebec City, Gander, Lahr, W. Germany, and overseas duties with NATO in the Golan Heights and Croatia. His early Air Force career began as a draftsman/surveyor and in his last position he inspected Naval Reserve Units across Canada, until his retirement in 2009.While living in Europe Rick hiked and downhill skied in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. That passion for the mountains returned in Creston, and he began snowshoeing and photographing numerous Kootenay peaks. An avid golfer since the early 1990s, Rick golfed in Chilliwack, Hemlock Valley, Quebec, Christina Lake, Creston, Salmo, Balfour and Mirror Lake.
Rick developed pneumonia shortly before his death.
He leaves behind his wife Gail; twin Raymond (Ray); siblings Linda, Cathy, Brien, Fern, Harlan, Ventris, John, Martin, and many dear friends.
Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's name may be made to Kelowna General Hospital or L'Hôpital Enfant Jésus, Quebec City.
