France “Frank” Wietzel

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of France “Frank” Wietzel, who passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 28, 2017 at Crest View Care Village.


Frank was born on the “RMS Empress of France” on July 13, 1925 on high seas while his family was coming to Canada from Russia. The family of eight resided in Castor, Alberta. Frank married Melba Brown in 1970 and they moved to Creston, B.C. with their son Rory. Frank was a cat operator for most of his life. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers since 1953.

Frank is predeceased by his wife Melba and their son Rory Wietzel.

He is survived by his sister Lydia of Edmonton, Alberta; daughter-in-law Patricia Wietzel; three grandchildren: Jeffrey Wietzel, Kelly Wietzel (Steven), and Heather Wietzel, all of Creston, B.C.; great-granddaughter Evalyn Rose and many nieces and nephews.


There will be a private family gathering at a later date.

The family would like to thank the kind staff of Crest View Care Village for their care of Frank during his residence.
