Elsie Marie Ward

November 4, 1927 ~ June 13, 2017

Elsie passed away peacefully and comfortably at Swan Valley Lodge on June 13, 2017 at the age of 89 years.

My mom was born Else Marie Haenni in Weyburn, Saskatchewan on November 4, 1927. She has two brothers and two sisters and their families spread across Canada. My mom married and moved to Brantford, Ontario where she had me, Deborah and my brother Brad. She worked for years in a Tamblyn Drug Store in the make-up department. So she has always taken great pride in her appearance. Eventually, she moved to Creston to be near me and her granddaughter Asha Clent, her grandson Jesse Clent, and her son-in-law Dennis Munro.

My mom was a true animal lover. She loved all animals, especially dogs. She also loved to play Scrabble, quite the pro. Her close friends and relatives will never forget her wonderful sense of humour. Shocking at times, but sure made you laugh. My mom was a real “sweetie” but boy, would she tell you off when she wasn’t happy about something. She loved to “dress up” in silly hats and costumes especially at Halloween. Kids loved seeing her dressed up - us adults too, so funny!

To her grandchildren, Asha and Jesse, she was "The Coolest Grandma Ever!!!!" They feel so lucky to have had the chance to get to know their Grandma so well and enjoy so many laughs with her.To my cousins, “Aunty Elsie” was the favorite and much-loved Aunty.

My mom will be missed by me, her daughter Deborah Munro of Creston, BC; her granddaughter Asha Clent of Airdrie, Alberta; grandson Jesse Clent of Creston, BC; son-in-law Dennis Munro; her son Brad Ward and family in Brantford, Ontario; her brothers and sisters and all their families; as well as her close friends and relatives all across Canada.

I know the staff in the Pioneer Wing at Swan Valley Lodge will miss my mom deeply, as she always took so much interest in getting to know each one of them and their families. She would remember all the names of their children and their pets too. She had quite the memory.

My mom touched the hearts of everyone who got to know her. We will all miss her. She can now join her much loved dog, Skippy.

I want to express my thanks to all the staff at the Swan Valley Lodge for their wonderful care of my mom. Especially to those in the Pioneer Wing. You are all amazing people.

Cremation, no service at family’s request.
