Delores Evelyn Neufeld

July 5, 1941 ~ October 6, 2016

Delores Evelyn Neufeld, age 75, was a permanent resident in the town of Creston B.C. for nearly 30 years and worked faithfully as a Long Term Care Aide for The Interior Health Authority for 15 + years. She quietly passed away in the Creston Regional Hospital on Thursday October.6, 2016 at 9:35 am of liver complications.

She was a mother of five: Susan, Candice, Richard, Jonathan and Natasha; grandmother of twelve and great- grandmother of eight. She had her first child when she was 15 and her last at 41. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and being quite a distance from Creston, she was overjoyed when they came to visit. She hung on to every card, trinket and photo she could with each passing year and made sure to send special birthday or care packages out to us when possible.

She was predeceased by her mother Evelyn in 2001 and her father Linford Hanson in 2011.

She is survived by her sister Judy Riggleman of Merrimac, Wisconsin and Chuck Hanson of Hazel Green, Wisconsin.

Delores, a vibrant, bubbly, and beautiful soul who cherished nature and animals, was born in Brainerd, Minnesota on July 5, 1941. She enjoyed spending time on her grandparents' farm in Motley, Minnesota with her Aunt Marie who was like a big sister. Delores asked Jesus into her heart one summer and she loved to wear her cape dress and bonnet to Sunday morning services. Later on, she attended the Private Christian Quaker boarding school: Friends Haviland Academy in Kansas, and went on to study nursing at St. Paul Bible College near Minneapolis. She met her first husband Richard Toews in 1962 and moved to Canada a few years later. She worked with the Red Cross when she moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. She met her second husband Barry Neufeld in 1978 and it was several years later that they found their way to Creston onto a small farm with horses.

Throughout her life, mom has always had a deep love for the Lord and faithfully prayed for all her children every night. Her kind, tender and giving nature was evident to everyone who knew her. This woman had a heart of gold that shone brightly when she smiled. Her favorite pastime included singing along to the Gaither Gospel Hour on tv. She also loved watching Heartland and old western tales of adventurous romance. She had a real gift for gardening and it grew to become her very own heavenly sanctuary here on Earth. You could always count on mom being at peace when she was tending to her flowers or cherry tomatoes.

Delores Neufeld was cared for by a gentle soul named Ted Yurbury during the last few years of her life and the family extends deep gratitude for his service. Mom also loved to care for others and many former citizens of Creston benefitted from her nurturing touch. With all the wonder and spark that she carried, her great laugh will likely be missed the most.

Her body was cremated and the ashes will be present at the service.

Her family and friends wish to honour her memory on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 2 pm at New Life Church, 1821 Elm St., Creston, BC. Rev. Harry Habberstock will be officiating and musical contributions will be made by Anita Stushunoff, Barry Neufeld and Natasha Neufeld. If you are interested in attending the service or have any questions please feel free to contact Natasha at 778-855-7012.
